How to Make a Custom Calendar

A complete guide to creating a personalised printable calendar with custom dates, layout, holidays, notes, and design options.

The Calendar Maker on CalendarPrint.co lets you build a custom printable calendar in minutes. You can choose from a range of calendar types, customise every aspect of the layout, add holidays and events, and then download your calendar as a PDF or print it directly.

Choosing a calendar type

The first step is choosing the type of calendar that fits your needs.

  • Monthly — The most popular option. Shows one month in a grid format. Good for wall planners, desk calendars, and general planning.
  • Yearly — Shows all 12 months in a compact grid. Good for overview planning and year-at-a-glance displays.
  • Weekly Planner — Shows one week in detail. Good for daily task planning, time-blocking, and scheduling.
  • Blank — An empty calendar grid. Fill in dates and events by hand. Good for classroom use, chore charts, and flexible planning.
  • School Calendar — A monthly calendar with space for term dates, assignments, and school events.
  • Work Schedule — A shift and workday planner for employees and managers.
  • Meal Planner — Weekly or monthly meal planning with breakfast, lunch, and dinner sections.
  • Fitness Calendar — A workout and goal-tracking calendar for exercise planning.
  • Birthday Calendar — A month-by-month birthday and celebration tracker.
  • Event Calendar — A custom event planner with deadline and notes fields.

Setting the date range

After choosing a calendar type, set your date range:

  • For a monthly calendar, choose the month and year
  • For a yearly calendar, choose the year
  • For a weekly planner, choose the start date of the week
  • For academic or work calendars, you may set a custom date range

Customising the layout

The settings panel offers a range of layout options:

  • Week start day — Monday or Sunday
  • Paper size — A4, Letter, A3, or A5
  • Orientation — Portrait or landscape
  • Layout density — Compact, standard, or spacious
  • Colour scheme — Ocean, Forest, Sunrise, Rose, Slate, Minimal, Classic, Modern, Bold, Colourful, or Black & White
  • Font size — Small, medium, or large
  • Show week numbers — Optional ISO week numbering
  • Show trailing days — Show faded previous/next month dates
  • Highlight weekends — Shade Saturday and Sunday columns
  • Highlight today — Mark the current date

Adding holidays

Choose your country from the holiday selector to add public or bank holidays to your calendar. Holidays will be highlighted in the calendar grid and listed below if selected.

Currently available: United Kingdom (England & Wales), United States (Federal), Canada (Federal), Australia (National), and Ireland.

Adding a notes section

Enable the Notes option to add a lined notes area to your calendar. This is useful for reminders, to-do lists, shopping lists, meal plans, or any other notes you want alongside the calendar.

Adding custom events

Use the Add Event section to add personal events, birthdays, appointments, or deadlines to specific dates. Each event can include a title, date, and optional notes.

Downloading as PDF

Click the Download PDF button to save your calendar as a PDF file. The PDF is generated in your browser and saved directly to your downloads folder. No files are sent to or stored on our servers.

The PDF filename will describe the calendar, such as:

  • printable-calendar-january-2026.pdf
  • weekly-planner-2026-01-05.pdf

Printing your calendar

Click Print Calendar to open your browser's print dialog. Only the calendar content will print — all website navigation, buttons, advert placeholders, and other UI elements are hidden by our print stylesheet.
